Powercast, founded in 2003, is the spearhead of radio frequency (RF)-based long-range power-over-distance wireless charging technology. Charging devices no longer requires wires, charging mats, or direct line of sight, as the embedded wireless power solution works in the far field for over-the-air charging of multiple devices at a distance of up to 80 feet for some applications. When in range of a transmitter, enabled devices recognize and begin charging automatically. With Powercast’s remote wireless charging, there is no need for contact with a power source as required with inductive, coil-based charging.
Customers have utilized Powercast’s innovative technology to power wireless sensor networks, waterproof designs, smart bands, RFID tags, and other commercial and industrial devices, with new consumer electronics solutions released in 2017. Powercast’s FCC-approved RF transmitter utilizes the 915 MHz ISM band to send RF energy to a receiver chip embedded in a device, which converts it to direct current (DC) with up to 75 percent efficiency to directly power or recharge that device’s batteries. The wireless power technology is smart, configurable, and controllable. It can automatically activate when enabled devices need charging and turn off when they are done, or it can deliver power continuously or on a scheduled basis.
